Capacity failure for key raw materials for epoxy resins

   

The news that in China epichlorohydrin capacities were closed due to environmental reasons in the range of 300,000 tonnes has immediately
triggered a price increase about 400 USD/MT for Asian epoxy resins. This shortage has had a massive impact on the European market.
The problem is heightened by the restrictions in the availability of the second key raw material, bisphenol-A. These restrictions have come as a
result of failures in the supply-chain of phenol capacities in US (www.rubberworld.com).

Since these factors impact the global epoxy market it is clear that there will be price-increases and possiblie limitations on supply the next
weeks and months.

Benzyl alcohol free epoxy curing agents

In March this year CTP Chemicals and Technologies for Polymers GmbH launches it's new benzyl alcohol free epoxy curing agents, CeTePox ® 1961 H and CeTePox ® VP 1213-68 H.

CeTePox ® 1961 H is a hardener intended for use in primers, coatings and repair systemson difficult and wet surfaces and gives excellent adhesion to mineral substrates and steel. CeTePox 1961 H is the next generation of the well established CeTePox ® 1951 H.

For self levelling top coats the stabilised amine hardener CeTePox ® VP 1213-68 H has been developed. Although benzyl alcohol has been eliminated completely it was possible to maintain the usual high performance level of standard curing agents in this field with respect to workability and surface properties like e.g. levelling and initial water resistance.
